For those looking for a local experience beyond the seaside idyll, West Wittering is 20 minutes drive away from the charming Cathedral town of Chichester whose attractions include the contemporary art gallery Pallant House, one of the UK’s most exciting new galleries, and the world class Chichester Festival Theatre which has productions showing throughout the year.

In addition there is the famous Goodwood estate with its racecourse and motor circuit which plays host to the legendary Festival of Speed and Glorious Goodwood horse racing events in the summer. 3 Coastguard Cottages presents the perfect opportunity for an idyllic seaside holiday as well as being ideally placed for visitors to enjoy the wide variety of cultural social and sporting events that West Sussex has to offer.

“No.3 Coastguard Cottage is the perfect home away from home. The cottage is beautifully decorated, with a fully equipped kitchen and lots of activities for the family; such as books, games & entertainment, and even bicycles and surfboards. Number 3 Coastguard Cottages is an idyllic Grade 2 listed 3 bedroom cottage situated within 10 minutes walking distance of West Wittering beach, one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Southern England. Built in 1834, the cottage is part of the same terrace as our other cottage, 8 Coastguard Cottages and was completely renovated in 2021.

3 Coastguard Cottages is in West Wittering, one of the last surviving stretches of natural coastline in Britain and internationally important for bird watching. In addition to the languid maritime beauty of West Wittering’s beach, its appeal lies in world class water-sports; including sailing, windsurfing and deep sea fishing, as well as a wide variety of beautiful walks and bike rides on the surrounding coastline.

THE COTTAGE

The cottage is approached through a wooden gate from Snowhill Lane. The south facing garden leads onto a sunny terrace and eating area providing guests with a perfect backdrop to enjoy the spectacular evening sunsets during summer months.

The ground floor is open plan and comprises a cosy living area dominated by an open fireplace. This leads through into a well appointed kitchen and dining area. The bathroom and toilet are also on the ground floor.

Upstairs there is a master bedroom from which you have a view of West Wittering beach. There are also two additional bedrooms, one in the middle with 2 built-in beds suitable for children and a third bedroom at the back with a double bed. All have ample storage. There is parking space for one vehicle in the lane.

The Clean and Safe charter means that owners will:

  1. Follow government cleaning advice for non-healthcare environments
    In all spaces high touch, hard surfaces will be cleaned twice and disinfected and all linen will be washed at the hottest water setting before a guest’s arrival. Check-in times may be delayed to allow increased time for cleaning between stays, at all times following government guidelines for the UK and Ireland.
  2. Enable self-check in where possible and practise social distancing during stays 
    All group spaces or shared facilities will be set up so that guests can socially distance easily.
  3. Have measures in place to allow guests to practise good hygiene throughout their stay
    All places will amply stock the necessary disinfectant, cleaning supplies, hand sanitisers and soap. Where possible, other measures to reduce risk will be taken. For example, guest information booklets or menus removed and the information given digitally instead.

You will find a comprehensive file of Visitor Notes plus a selection of leaflets giving detailed information about local activities. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a microwave and Nespresso machine.

For young families we provide melamine plates & bowls, a folding bed rail, a highchair, and a travelcot (however we do not supply cot sheets).

There is a selection of beach toys and life jackets in the garden shed. There are 2 adult bikes for guests use but these are used at your own risk and we shall not be liable for any accident or injury.

West Wittering village is 5 minutes walk from the cottage and has an excellent cafe, a butcher, a beach shop and a convenience store. There are also two pubs and a restaurant.

The nearby village of East Wittering has two supermarkets, a chemist, a fishmonger as well as a variety of other shops and restaurants.

There is a Waitrose (01243 775721) and Sainsbury’s  (01243 775721) in Chichester. Both will deliver an on-line shop to the cottage.

There is a cash machine at SAYA in West Wittering.

The cottage is cleaned and beds made up prior to your arrival.

There will be an additional clean arranged for each additional week of your stay.
